Research in the Barker lab is focused on understanding innate immune responses to viral infection, particularly in response to HIV and other retroviruses. We are specifically asking two questions:
How are viral nucleic acids sensed in infected cells to signal an inflammatory response?
How are variations in nucleic acid sensors related to viral pathogenesis?
